Abstract

The present study aims to diagnose pathologies in a historic non-listed building. Such buildings should be preserved to keep past moments alive. Restoration work must be very careful to preserve original materials, as well as structural and architectural characteristics. The building characterization and pathology analysis were carried out by visual observation in the field. Among the pathologies found, active and passive cracks were found in the masonry, which resulted from soil accommodation and absence of lintel and counter lintel. Frame rotting, wood plank warping, and terrace structure breakdown were also registered, the latter being mainly due to lack of maintenance. Cracks and fractures may occur due to several reasons, including physical, chemical, and mechanical processes. Moreover, such pathologies are due to physical factors and/ or lack of maintenance. Future studies are to analyze pathologies of electrical and hydraulic installations, as well as restoration of the interior, for the retrofit of the building.
