Ageing is a process that brings changes to all the body's structures and organs, including the facial region, encouraging people to increasingly seek out so-called "rejuvenating" cosmetic procedures to slow down and/or treat this inevitable process. Among these substances, the polyphenol Resveratrol stands out, as it is a powerful antioxidant and is present in some foods such as peanuts, blackberries and especially grapes and red wine. The aim of this study was to carry out a literature review on the mechanism of action of resveratrol, its action in protecting the skin, and the recommended daily dosage. Articles were selected from the years 2013 to 2023, available in the following electronic databases: Pubmed, Scielo, Bireme, Scopus, Science direct and Google academic. The review found that one of the mechanisms with possible effects of Resveratrol on the longevity of the organism are the sirtuin proteins which are related to (DNA) repair and the activation of fibroblasts in the production of type I and II collagen. The review showed that the absorption, metabolization and bioavailability of resveratrol via the oral route are still limitations for administration, and as for its dosage, most of the authors included in this review argue that the daily dose is still something to be defined in new studies.
